 | For what you’d guess to be a techie crowd, a very un-techie startup — a company that would build greenhouses on currently vacant land to grow food that would be sold and consumed locally. Unlike a farmer’s market or urban garden, the greenhouse and hydroponics would allow year-ground growing in large quantities, and the distribution method would be through wholesalers versus direct to the public. The idea has good PR potential, because the idea of keeping more food dollars circulating locally versus shipping food in from elsewhere is a newsworthy concept.

 | Basically, OpenAction maps organizations and individuals making a difference in order to foster great transparency, collaboration, and sharing of best practices. We accomplish this by adding value to organizations that adopt an open data standard for reporting project information.
The open standard allows project data (stories, photos, videos) to be mapped, linked to a timeline of progress, and disseminated to multiple locations including the organization's website, the ActionMap that aggregates projects to promote greater connectivity amongst organizations, the RSS Readers of their supporters (similar to how one subscribes to a blog), and Google Earth presentations. This maximizes the return on an organization's outreach because they can engage their existing supporters while connecting to new audiences and like-minded organizations. There is no need for retyping information, so that all of the content is current.
